Common in open woodlands and suburbs. Has a distinct, sharp musical call often given in flight.

 

Has a white stipe above and a black stripe through the eye. Also has an irregular migration pattern, which varies from year to year.

 

One of the most common and loudest birds in North America. Males are glossy black with red marking on the wings. Females are brown and have no red markings. Nest in colonies that number in the thousands.

 

Found over most of North America. Plumage varies from location to location. Often inhabits brushy areas such abandoned fields, hedgerows and young woodlands. A common target of cowbird parasitism.
